Remember when you were first learning to ride a bike?

It took some time to get used to the pedals, the steering – and most of all, the idea of staying upright. Well, hearing aids are kind of the same thing. Like a bike, they can definitely improve your life, but it takes time. Wearing hearing aids can be a bit disorienting for someone who is new to these high-tech devices. Here are some more tips to help you get used to them.

Don’t play with the volume too much. It’s likely that your hearing aids adjust to different listening situations automatically, so they shouldn’t need to be manually adjusted very often. If you do turn them up, don’t make the volume too loud.

And practice talking to people in groups. Start having conversations with your close friends and family. Make sure you face the speaker and look right at them while they’re talking. This will help your brain reconnect the dots between sounds, vocal patterns, and nonverbal body language.
